Atlas had it easy

atlas greek godAtlas had it easy in comparison with WAHM (work at home moms).  You remember him right? The Greek (or was it Roman?) god who was tasked with HOLDING UP THE SKY.

That is what it has felt like for me for the past three days. Both my sweet offspring have been suffering from pneumonia, and tonsillitis respectively, and I think if I’ve had a chance to do 2 hours work during all that time, I’m lucky.

Last night was the first night that I actually had 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep, with maybe 6 in total the whole night. Which I consider some kind of freakish victory.

I honestly can’t keep consuming caffeine the way that I do, so maybe the answer lies in obtaining some awesome nuclear strength womens vitamins? If only they were not so darn expensive here!

Without a doubt the hardest problem facing freelancers, and especially freelancing moms, is the way that the assumption is made that because we work at home, our job is not as important, and is easily shelved when the family needs us.

Of course, emotionally we’re wanting to be able to be there anyway, but it really doesn’t feel great having to delay projects and the other parental unit gets to be an executive rockstar, with none of the distractions and constant interruptions that we face.

Anyone else out there feel like this?
