The Ultimate Mac Office: Canvas Print
Sep 13th
When designing items for selling (as opposed to designing to a brief), it’s unavoidable to design without using my own taste as a guideline. Which is why I added this post to my Ultimate Mac Office Series, because this design, is something that I would purchase and hang on the walls of my future dream office.
One of my income streams as a designer, comes from Zazzle.com. I love the freedom with which I can make designs, posters and other merchandise on their site. They’re also always bringing out new products to which I can apply my designs.
Here’s a canvas print that I made today. I’ve designed it to be part of a series, but it works well in a modern interior by itself as well.

Awesome Deals: Is it that time of year already?
Aug 3rd
Yes, it’s really almost that time of year already. Time for Black Friday specials. I just wish we had them here in SA. Though I’m not entirely sure I want to be caught up in a mob around these parts…
For those of you who don’t know, “Black Friday” is the day after Thanksgiving (which is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday) which has CRAZEEEEE special deals. Think of it as basically hundreds of people, looking as though they’re looting stores, but in reality they’re paying for stuff.
Now if I could just find a 24″ iMac for say, ….next to nothing???
Anyone, anyone?
Beuller?
Bueller?

Back to my favourite topic quickly – furnishing your home office in a stylish enough way, to suit your iMac! Because iMacs deserve fresh and funky workspaces, for you to be creative in. It’s a fact, if you try to put an iMac into a room with floral wall paper, it will actually stop working, and Apple will come and forcibly remove it from your home.
Of course I’m just joking, but all joking aside, you can’t possibly have no taste if you own an apple computer, so let’s take a look at some fresh rugs currently available on the web!
Here is my favourite at the moment: It’s so ‘vector-ey’!
But if you’re more of an ‘at pixel level’ person, and bitmaps are more your sort of thing, have a look at this one, it will really blow your hair back!!

Fashion.
No, not like everyone else, because I’m talking about Equestrian Fashion!
There is something so delightful, about equestrian fashion. Whether you’re a dressage rider, up on a giant warmblood, with your perfect topper, tailcoat, impossibly white gloves and leather full seat breeches, or if you’re a western trail rider, or happy hacker, there is a multitude of equestrian specific fashion out there.
One of my favourite brands is Ariat, Tuff Rider and Mountain Horse, they are such great quality products and so so cute/awesome and functional! Not to mention sturdy and hard wearing, because anyone who’s been around horses will tell you that if you wear it around horses, it will get dropped in the mud (or you will get dumped in the mud) rained on, slobbered on, with sweet horsey green grass slimey slobber (horsey kisses!), bitten, snagged on errant nails in fence posts, and generally face a lot more action than normal clothing. So it has to be good!
I love shopping for equestrian stuff, from funky hats to wear around the stables, to safety helmets worn whilst out riding. What are your favourite equestrian brands?

A Good Old Fashioned Sale
Feb 10th
Sometimes getting back to basics with marketing can reap benefits for small business. So often consumers are bombarded with special offers that have so much fine print, that they are mistrustful of them. Aren’t you personally sick of hearing the phrase, “Terms and Conditions Apply” ? Well in my opinion if your sale is that complicated that you need to have terms and conditions, then maybe it’s time to re-evaulate what you’re promoting.
Of course the phrase ‘terms and conditions’ was coined because of the fact that we have become a litigous society. Sometimes we have to cover ourselves, because some people will try to take advantage. A sad fact.
So, perhaps you should consider have a good old fashioned simple sale. Some red stickers and a sign that screams “20% Off Selected Items”. Then name those items, and offer 20% of the total price. Don’t go and get smart and say 20% off when you make a purchase of X, Y and Z because that just puts people off.
Happy Small Business-ing to day People! Let’s have some fun!

Valentines Day!
Feb 6th
Do you remember how Valentines day was SUCH a big deal in high school? I remember that all the local high schools would organize a flower delivery van. For example if you went to Girls High School A, then Boys High School A, B, C would send a van around with flowers, then they’d carry on to Girls High School B, C, D etc.
We’d always get so excited, as each Van would arrive, because they’d read out the names of the girls who were getting flowers and you’d have to go up and get it. Of course the girls who got so many that it was deemed ‘too many’ by the judge and jury that is HIGH SCHOOL would be branded ’slags’. Yes, that’s high school for you!
Personally, while I think flowers are absolutely beautiful, and I will never ever complain if someone takes the time and effort to give them to me, I’d be happier with a pot plant (so that they don’t have to die), or a simple gift. Having said that, I would give anything for my husband to make the effort to find me some Tulips (my absolutely favourite flower of all time), and give those to me.
My husband has never really been ‘all about’ on Valentines Day, but I hope that this year he makes an exception. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re now done having kids, and it feels like it’s a good time to start working on ‘us’ again. I know I’m definitely in the market to buy him a big red helium balloon heart and have it delivered to his work!
What are your plans for Valentines Day?

All Things Bright and Beautiful
Jan 2nd
I had a look see at the latest IKEA catalog today.
How I wish that that damn Swedish company had branches here. Seriously.
I know I’ve talked about this rug before, but it was featured a lot better in this new 2009 catalog, and frankly, the fun use of color and sense of linear motion is what wins me over every time I look at it.
See? So pretty!
It retails in the USA for $199 (US) and for $299 in Australia (AUD), and I don’t know, it just makes me happy to look at it. I can totally picture it on light beech colored laminate wood flooring, just think how easy it would be to accessorize the rest of the rooms soft furnishings, blinds, curtains, cushions, throws etc. You could have your very own little color explosion thing happening.
Okay, who wants to ship me a rug that’s a mere 2m long? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

Why I Need An iPhone…
Jan 1st
Seriously.
Obviously, I’m a huge Mac fan. All their products aside from being brilliant innovations in technology, are BEAUTIFUL.
Seriously. When last did you look at one of their new products? Or even old products? Gorgeous I tell you.
So of course I don’t so much as want an iPhone, as really, really need one. But I’m patient, at least.
I’ve had a run of bad luck with cell phones lately. Seriously.
I had a Samsung E350. I loved it. One day I saw it going round and round and round in that little window in the washing machine. Sadly, she did not make it, and her cold lifeless steel body is nothing but a dummy phone, destined to spend the remainder of her days in a display case somewhere, merely pretending to be real.
So I replaced Samsung E250 with Sony Ericsson something.
She was quite cool looking, given her reasonable price. A teal colored flip phone. Her ring tones rocked my world. Real Music at last!
One day I switched her off, just a month after we first met, only to have her vibrate feebly in my hands when I tried to switch her on again. She is *still* in that no mans land, where all the socks and paperclips go, that is ‘cell phone repair land’.
So, I bought Sony Ericsson replacement phone. Determined not to get too attached to her, I didn’t personalize her all that much. Just two weeks after we first adopted one another, I had to jump into my pool fully clothed (with her in my jeans pocket) to fish Reebok out of the pool – (he’d slipped off the step where he was playing and I was watching from – thank god he was totally ok, just coughing and spluttering a bit), less than 3 seconds in the water and pffft. Nada.
In total despair I told MacHubby of my misfortune. After berating me for doing something SO STUPID AS KEEPING MY PHONE IN MY POCKET FOR BUCKETS SAKES, he suddenly whipped out one of his old phones, also of the Sony Ericsson sisterhood. A phone so funky it even took a micro sd card! So she keeps me company now, while I wait for Teal Sony Ericsson to reappear.
But really, none of this would have happened if I’d had an iPhone. I just know it. Because instead of treating you with utter disdain (like PC’s and other technological brands), I just know my iPhone would love me back
