The Ultimate Mac Office: Floor Decor

So here we are again, talking fresh creative spaces for home (or office) work spaces. I just can’t get enough of this subject! Especially when stores like IKEA have such great offerings!

Feast your retina’s on this juicy floor rug.

I mean can’t you just see it, reigning supreme on some bleached beechwood floorboards, sunlight streaming onto it through aluminium windows?  It’s a whopping W140cm by L200cm (and only retails for AUD$299) so it’s large enough for you to tumble off your chair onto, when you’re exhausted from all your creative work, and need to regenerate your powers by absorbing some sunlight.

If you’re me, you’ll probably have to boot your matching golden labs off it first, because being 100 percent pure new woolpile, it’s going to be one of the most coveted spots in the house.

Good thing it’s in your home office though, and you can keep everyone out because it’s YOURS!

Ooh, I nearly forgot to mention, that this morning I bought one of these!  It’s a gift for someone, so alas, no not for me, but I will definitely be getting one to store my photos on in the near future.

Out of Commission

Thankfully, not the monetary kind, and my iMac fund continues to swell satisfyingly!

However, I have a Monday 11am deadline on a bunch of photo edits that I need to do, and I’m seriously down with the flu. Not so much ‘down’ as ‘totally bloody flattened’ by it I might add.

What I’d like to be doing now, is floating on a lilo (air mattress for those of you unfamiliar with the ZAF lingo) around my green sparkling turquoise swimming pool, with no cares in the world, and being so thin that the handfuls of decadent Ju Ju Be’s that I’m hoiking into my mouth won’t make any difference.

But back to reality, a sick bubkins (yo-yoing fevers no less) and photo edits will have to absorb me totally.  Maybe the OPU can sort out the pool so that next weekend, barring rain and blustering wind as has become the norm of late, we can actually *use* our pool instead of looking at it like yet another job that needs doing.

Oh for a tropical holiday right now…

Who Are the Best Worldwide Removals Company?

Yes, I’m looking for your opinion again, this time on moving companies. I’ve never done a big international move before. The OPU has done about 3, but this probably isn’t a topic of conversation that I’m going to raise with *him* right now, because at 20:45pm I’m not likely to get more than a grunt at this point.

So who would you recommend, that you’ve used? Where did you move from/to?  I’m basically looking for a reputable company, that doesn’t cost the earth (that leaves out most of the more popular brand names), but can ship a few personal items and odds and ends from little old South Africa to either Australia or New Zealand.  Destination right now is TBA.

Anyhoo, I’m just really interested in your opinions, cheers!

Hazelnut Latte and a Mexican Omelette

Yes, that’s what I’m having for breakfast right now, at a local cafe (yes without OPU* and offspring).

*OPU = Other Parental Unit for those of you who’ve just started reading moi.

So what’s a mexican omelette I hear some of you locals asking me? Well, let’s see shall we?

It’s a very delicious, egg and potato omelette topped with chorizo sausage, salsa and cheddar. Oh so tasty and probably oh so bad for my arteries, but I digress…

The hazelnut latte is needlessly explained, of course, but very definitely necessary to put some energy into my veins.  I remember a line from that old TV series “Dweebs” (why oh why did they cancel it – it was FUNNY man!), where the ‘coolest’ geek in the office turns to someone who offered him a cup of decaf, and says, “I drink coffee, because it’s the *only* drug they let you use in an office.”

Anyway, I’d better go and check out my bank account balance before I sit here too long, because of course the longer I sit enjoing the free bandwidth, the more likely I am to order something, but sadly it’s that time of the month that the account is running on vapour, and I’m more than likely going to have to offer to wash their kitchen sinks if I’m to get out of here wearing my shirt!

The Ultimate Mac Office: Desk

Back to my favourite series that I post about! The Ultimate Mac Office !

The type of office that I’m going to put together when I have both the right, fresh, airy space, and funds.

The Ultimate Mac Office Desk

Let’s take a look see at my ultimate desk shall we?  Just to make sure we’re clear on this, by ‘desk’ I am referring to the immediate area where I sit and work at the beautiful 24″ iMac.  What I’m not referring to, is the work area where I spread out photograph proofs, or the slightly slanted space where I sit and sketch out designs by hand.  So got that? * Just * the area where the iMac resides in all her resplendent awesomeness okay?

Right…here’s a picture:

Now…here’s why.

It is as sleek, beautiful and functional as the iMac that is going to be resting on it.

There is *no* room for clutter on this desk. Clutter is the evil design-mojo sapping thing that can take up 8 hours of your day and leave you with absolutely nothing done. Thus…no room for clutter.

However, the cubicle shelving system on your right is just PERFECT for CUTE COLORFUL STORAGE BOXES!

I am *all* about cute colorful storage boxes.  Whether you pick one/two or all the colors, they’re going to look superb on that storage unit.  Also, whether you use them for storing CD/DVD backups, or photographs, or those  fat burner pills you keep forgetting to take, they’re going to look awesome, and your fresh creative space will be boosting your mood and creative abilities all day long!

I Need Your Opinion

I’m looking for a good stat-counter for a site I’m busy developing.  On other blogs I’m currently using:

Blog Patrol

StatCounter

But I’m wondering if there’s anything out there, that I haven’t found yet, that I *should* be using?

Any thoughts, anyone? Please? I’d really appreciate the input, oh and I suppose I should mention that it needs to be *free*!

Eyeball Deep in Photo Editing

Yes, that’s right, I’m eye-ball deep in about 300 photos that have to be edited by Monday.  Most of them just require the odd tweak. A bit of crop n sharpen, or where it warrants it the full bang shoot – the ‘eye popper-jaw dropper’. Ha ha. I crack myself up with my own terminology for these Photoshop Techniques.

Here’s an example: Before is Above, and After is Below.

Sorry for the small size, but you can still see the difference. The original shot was not really all that bad, but needed some lighting fixed.

The child in question had a small blemish that I removed with a quick flick of the ‘healing’ tool, but then after that, there were a series of layers and masks applied to achieve a slightly Vignette (darker border) effect, helping to focus the remaining light on the subject.

I brought out his eyes quite a bit as well with a brightening tool, and gave the overal image a sharpening, while simultaneously smoothing out the appearance of his skin.

Now I just have to repeat this process about 299 times before Monday and I’ll be styling!!

Wish me luck!

Blog Development

Not much to report today, other than I’m still adding to the blogroll, and I’ve installed and activated some new plugins – see the new poll? Don’t forget to cast your vote!

Furthermore, am knee deep in developing a fourth site at the moment, which is a complement to this one, offering a complete photo editing and image manipulation service, but more on that later!

It's All Go Go Go Here

Wow things have been happening fast around these parts. I’ve just been installing several new plugins across the board, on all my blogs, as well as introducing some new affiliate banners. The aforementioned plugin is one that parses the information when you leave a comment and automatically creates a link to your most recent post.

Nice hey?  Since I’m all about link lovin’ at the moment, and trying to help everyone across the web pick up the pieces after the great Google Axe Fall on blog rankings, feel free to link to this post or blog okay?

Do take a look down the left sidebar at the new 125×125 buttons, and feel free to click on these to visit my affiliates as well.

I’m still working on that blogroll on the right, and yes, it’s probably going to be huge. But it’s not all necessarily moot, because they’ll be divided into easy to understand categories, so feel free to peruse and click your pick.

So why all the frenzied work, fiddling and designing? The truth is I love this blogging stuff, and it really feels like the world is my oyster right now. With the dollar gaining in strength every minute (or so it seems) all this work is *doubly* worth it, and it won’t be long before I’m taking Vegas vacations to enjoy all my hard earned money. Seriously – did you know you can take a two-night break in Vegas for as little as $149? Sometimes I wish I’d taken that NYC job I was offered years ago…
