How to do a Screen Capture on a Mac
As a digital designer, and photographer, one of the things I used to use a lot on my PC was the old “Alt-Printscreen” maneuver. You know, to capture whatever was on the screen at the time?
When I got my Mac I wondered how Mac would handle this same request. After having searched for a printscreen key and failing miserably, in fact there wasn’t even an alt key, I thought, “No way. There is No Way, that Apple didn’t plan for this, there has to be a way to do it.”

Of course I was just being a PC brainwashed dummy as usual.
Of COURSE Apple planned for this. Hell, they probably invented the move…and as usual, it’s even easier on a Mac than a PC. LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.
Plus they give you a choice!! (Can you hear the heavenly choirs breaking through the dark clouds in a chorus of Handels Messiah?)
Option 1: Press Command-Shift-3 this will capture your entire screen.
Option 2: Press Command-Shift-4 this will allow you to click and drag an area to select.
Bonus: Your beautiful Mac will automatically name and save these for you to your desktop. All nicely packaged and ready for you to go and get to insert wherever you need it.
GeekSpeak: The Command Key on a Mac is the one with the Apple on it. It’s such a great thing, they’ve even given you TWO of them.
I love Mac.
