Well, it’s by no means the latest release. *BUT* it is at such a great price point that *NOW NOW NOW* is the time to get into the photo printer market if you’ve been looking, and unable to make up your mind.
Let’s take a look see shall we?

First of all, where I bought it, they had a promotion on, so not only did I score an extra black cartridge, but a whole box of 4×6 photo paper.
While I tend to outsource my local clients work (big jobs over 500 photos etc) to a nearby printer who delivers to my door by courier, sometimes I have a client who just wants a few shots, in which case it works out easier for me, and faster for them if I produce them right on my desk as soon after the shoot as possible. Obviously only once post-production and processing is done.
Up until now, I was using my trusty HP Photosmart 7760, but it’s two years old, and honestly, it had been through one house move with us, and it was getting a little ‘loud’ for my tastes, plus – with the price point that this Canon was being offered at, I just jumped at the chance to get it.
So that’s WHY I got it.
Now I want to tell you that I really like the fact that there are 4 ink tanks, black, magenta, cyan and yellow, meaning that if you only do one type of work, you’re more likely to run out of one colour quicker, and with this system, you’re able to replace just the colour you’re low on, saving you time and money! As the Canon’s get more complicated, impressive and expensive, the more ink tanks they have, up to a total of 9 I think is the current top of the range printer.
I will definitely at some point in the future, do all my own production up to A3 and will therefor need the best printer my money can buy, but for now, this baby more than serves my needs, and better yet, looks great, all smart and shiny, and looking pretty next to my gorgeous Mac. That folks, makes it extra special.
You can get one here…

I just got a Canon IP3500 sitting all bright and shiny out the box.
Will set it up, fire it up, and do a full review on my experience tomorrow.
For now, back to the design drawing board, for a clients’ business cards! Never a dull moment in Macnessa world.

One of the first things a former PC user notices about the Mac – aside from it’s beautiful exterior, gorgeous iconography and seamless design – is the fact that the mouse/touchpad, only has 1 button.
OMG what now!? They shriek in horror, because the feeling that your computer is laughing at you hasn’t quite left you, even though your PC is now gathering dust somewhere.
Rest assured fellow Mac converts that your Mac, is smiling with you. Now while you will be able to accomplish most tasks without needing to ‘rightclick’ on something, Apple wasn’t entirely willing to abandon the function completely. So here we are:
Option 1:
If you want to cut and paste text without the hassle of using menu’s simply use your command button (the apple one – there are two – one on either side of your space bar folks!)
You type Command C (to cut) and Command V (to paste) similar to the old PC way of using Ctrl C &V.
Option 2:
If you are wanting to cut and paste text: Simply hold down your control button while you click. Go on, try it now on this blog post. Highlight this paragraph and then press Ctrl while you click your touchpad button. If you’ve done it correctly you should see this:

From here you will be able to select ‘copy’ and when your cursor is in position, you will be able to repeat the action (Ctrl-click) in order to ‘paste’ in your desired location.
Option 3:
This is less labour intensive and perfect for MacBook and MacBook Pro/Air users, simply adjust your system preferences :see below: to allow for two finger trackpad clicking. Basically once this is done, you simply place two fingers on the trackpad and then click the button with your thumb.

I welcome any further questions or comments!

Of course now that you have a shiny, beautiful, classic and elegant Mac gracing your home office – you need a whole new home office to go with it right? Because somehow, even though your beautiful Mac makes everything around it look prettier, you’re suddenly inspired to create a whole new space, that’s light and airy.
Space for YOU to be creative and space where your brain can expand so that you can do wonderful and meaningful things with your Mac. Your old desk and crummy typist chair just aren’t going to cut it anymore, right?
So this series of “The Ultimate Mac Office” is going to help you do just that.
I’m going to be showcasing items every now and then that I believe could possibly share the same space with the glorious iMac/Macbook etc
So our first stop, in this groundbreaking new series? IKEA of course!
Feast your eyes on this…

Enter the Jerrik Chair from IKEA – picture is clickable to product on IKEA Australia website.
Doesn’t it just yell CAPTAIN OF THE STAR SHIP ENTERPRISE?
Doesn’t it make you want to boldly go where no graphic designer/photographer/SAHM/WAHM has gone before?
You might even be tempted to shop for Star Trek Pj’s to wear while you sit in this baby, having your morning coffee and speaking your latest entry in to the Captains Log….star date…569.4…right??? Or talking into your bluetooth headset just like Uhuru??
It retails for AUD $569, and about US $399, but sadly the USA website as of this morning only had icky brown available not like this subtle beige. Now I don’t know about you, but icky brown doesn’t really suit my plans of galactic domination. Although…there’s a red option…so that *might* work if you’re working in cloaking mode.

As a digital designer, and photographer, one of the things I used to use a lot on my PC was the old “Alt-Printscreen” maneuver. You know, to capture whatever was on the screen at the time?
When I got my Mac I wondered how Mac would handle this same request. After having searched for a printscreen key and failing miserably, in fact there wasn’t even an alt key, I thought, “No way. There is No Way, that Apple didn’t plan for this, there has to be a way to do it.”

Of course I was just being a PC brainwashed dummy as usual.
Of COURSE Apple planned for this. Hell, they probably invented the move…and as usual, it’s even easier on a Mac than a PC. LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.
Plus they give you a choice!! (Can you hear the heavenly choirs breaking through the dark clouds in a chorus of Handels Messiah?)
Option 1: Press Command-Shift-3 this will capture your entire screen.
Option 2: Press Command-Shift-4 this will allow you to click and drag an area to select.
Bonus: Your beautiful Mac will automatically name and save these for you to your desktop. All nicely packaged and ready for you to go and get to insert wherever you need it.
GeekSpeak: The Command Key on a Mac is the one with the Apple on it. It’s such a great thing, they’ve even given you TWO of them.
I love Mac.
